Heyday by Steve Gibbs

The retirement of the mighty Vulcan from the Royal Air Force with all its attendant publicity tends to make us forget the heady days when even the smaller "At Home" or "Station Air Day" could rely on the Vulcan as one of its star attractions. In this picture artist Steve Gibbs has tried to create something of that simple carnival atmosphere of the provincial show by showing the scene at an Open Day at RAF Swinderby in Lincolnshire during the early 1980's. Avro Vulcan B2 XM575 does a dramatic touch-and-go in front of the distinctive hangers of the well-known former airfield. As the pilot applies full power, the smoke from the Olympus engines begins to build as the magnificent delta thunders into the air to demonstrate its astounding agility to a totally enthralled crowd of onlookers.

Printed as an artist-signed edition of 1000 copies in full colour using light-fast inks and quality art board, the print comes ready mounted with certificate in a presentation package, overall size 20" x 16" ready for framing. Image size 15.75" x 10.5" with generous captioned border.

HMS Sydney commanded by Captain J C T Glossop, Attacking the German Cruiser Emden by Maurice Randall (P)

HMS Sydney commanded by Captain J C T Glossop, Attacking the German Cruiser Emden by Maurice Randall (P) The most brilliant feature of the war by sea for Germany was the free and uninterrupted career of the cruiser Emden against the merchant shipping of the allies. She had even shelled oil tanks at Madras, but her daring captain, Karl von Müller, was at length outwitted. Having approached the Cocos Islands, with his ship disguised with an additional funnel, her wily captain sent a landing party to destroy the wireless apparatus. But her identity was recognised and immediately the news was flashed to Singapore. The cruisers Sydney and Melbourne, convoying troopships to Europe, caught the message 100 miles off, and, going full speed ahead, the Sydney caught sight of the Emden soon after 9 am on 9th November 1914. Possessing a ship with heavier guns and greater speed, Captain Glossop soon showed his superiority, and Captain von Muller was obliged to drive the Emden ashore on North Keeling Island to save her from sinking.

The Battle of Quebec, 13th September 1759 by David Rowlands.

The Battle of Quebec, 13th September 1759 by David Rowlands. Captain W Macleods Company, 1st Battalion Royal Artillery. Battle of Quebec 13th September 1759 was Wolfs final attempt to take the city. His army scaled the cliffs from Wolfes cove and fought the French army which was larger than Wolfes on the Plains of Abraham. During this battle General Wolfe was hit twice and eventually mortally wounded when a bullet passed through his lungs. As he lay dying he heard someone shout They run - see how they run. Wolfe gave his last order to cut of the enemies retreat and his last words being Now God be praised. I will die in peace.
